L-Theanine is an amino acid found almost exclusively in tea that influences the central nervous system through a number of mechanisms. It crosses the bloodbrain barrier in a dose-dependent manner within 30 minutes, and influences levels of the neurotransmitters dopamine, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), serotonin, norepinephrine, and glutamate. These effects cause a significant increase in alpha brain wave activity, indicative of a state of wakeful relaxation, increased performance under stress, improved learning and concentration, as well as decreased anxiety.

Warnings
While no specific contraindications exist or are predicted, data is lacking for use during pregnancy, lactation, and in children, and the dosage may need to be reduced for those less than 18.

Additional Information
L-Theanine is known to have a hypotensive effect in some individuals, and concomitant use of with antihypertensive drugs may potentiate their activity.

I give this to my 6-year old with ADHD. I like that it's chewable, tastes good, is sugar and gluten free.
